Garage Christmas tree at the exhibition„Garaaž. Гараж. Garage“

A Christmas tree that grew up in a garage is ready for the holidays at The People’s Museum of Tallinn. The tree was born at the museum’s exhibition “Garage. Garage. Garage”.
The tree, decorated with cars, wrenches, washers and bolts, is reminiscent of everything associated with the garage environment. Just as garages may at first glance seem like inconspicuous utility buildings between houses, a Christmas tree can also be decorated with everyday objects that we usually don’t think about or pay attention to at Christmas. However, garages and the objects found in them contain their own stories, feelings and memories, with which everyone has personal connections. Now these stories and memories are brought to light in a particularly Christmas-like way. The tree is made of old metal plates, which were found in a garage and screwed together there, as is typical of a real garage tree. The Christmas decorations, however, are painted in rather unconventional colors, inspired by the graffiti found on the walls of garages all over Tallinn.

The tree was built by artist Eldar Jakubov and the decorations were made by Karoli Loo. The museum thanks its colleagues who helped to realize the installation.
