Tallinn City Museum Summer Day Camp “Colours of the City”

The Tallinn City Museum summer city camp traditionally takes place in two sessions, with the second session held from August 11 to 13, Tuesday to Thursday. This year, we will explore the vibrant world of colours in the city – from nature and history to art and architecture – which is why this summer’s theme is “Colours of the City.”

Children from 1st grade up to 12 years old are warmly welcome to join. Activities are held in Estonian, but children who are still learning the language are encouraged to participate as well. Our teachers speak several languages and make sure every child feels comfortable, included, supported, and fully engaged throughout the day.

During the three days, we will play, explore, listen to fascinating stories about Tallinn’s history, do arts and crafts together, and enjoy many other exciting activities. We will learn about healthy healthy eating and enjoy life together.

Camp days run from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Second Session: August

August 11: Dragon’s Nest

The Peoples’ Museum of Tallinn day begins with a city adventure: together we head into the Old Town to search for dragons hidden on building facades. In this exciting scavenger hunt, we will test our observation skills and joy of discovery. Back at the museum, the day continues with movement and team games, where every task is connected to the world of colours and dragons. Afterwards, we will test our knowledge in a fun dragon quiz. After lunch, everyone can unleash their creativity by making their own unique dragon mask using colourful cardboard and imaginative details. Together, we will immerse ourselves in the museum’s colours, dragons, and joyful atmosphere!

August 12: The Colours of Time in an Old Tower

The Kiek in de Kök Fortifications Museum camp day takes place in and around the Maiden Tower. We will discover how vibrant and diverse life in this place has been throughout history. After a historical scavenger hunt, we will listen to ghost stories from the Maiden Tower and play games with the Black Monk. After lunch begins the art workshop “The Colours of Time.” We will work with different colours and techniques, using both natural and modern shades. The day ends with a scavenger hunt in the Danish King’s Garden, where riddles and clues lead children to a fun treasure.

August 13: The Colours of Kalamaja and Colourful Characters

On the final day of the camp, we will explore at the Kalamaja Museum what colours the old wooden houses of the suburb are and what patterns decorate their fascinating doors. We will play tag and other old-fashioned games. Weather permitting, we will hike through the local streets and see what colourful characters live there. With a bit of luck, we may even meet Kalamaja’s star cat August, admire the beautiful shades of his fur, and afterwards paint or draw pictures inspired by the characters we encountered.
